Russell Brand tops box office chart

LONDON (Reuters) - Comedian Russell Brand’s movie debut "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" topped the box office after its opening weekend, according to Screen International.

The Hawaii-based romantic comedy with Brand playing a pompous rock star alongside stars Jason Segel and Kristen Bell took 1.75 million pounds.

Coming in at No. 2 was horror thriller "The Eye" with Jessica Alba as a blind concert violinist who starts seeing the dead after a cornea transplant.

Last week’s chart-topper "21" was down at three with its tale of a gang of maths prodigies setting out to make a fortune in the casinos.

Down two places at four was "Fool’s Gold," with Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey as a pair of bickering treasure hunters pushed back together by the prospect of undersea riches.

The gangsters on the run in Belgium in "In Bruges" were down two places at five, one above "Son of Rambow," the nostalgic story of two boys in the 1980s re-enacting the exploits of Sylvester Stallone.

"Deception" was new at seven, with Ewan McGregor as a washed-out accountant tasting the thrills of a sophisticated sex club.

"Street Kings," with Keanu Reeves in a tale of corruption in the Los Angeles Police department, was down four at eight, while the haunted house of "The Spiderwick .....continued below

At 10 was director Mike Leigh’s "Happy Go Lucky," starring Sally Hawkins as a chirpy primary school teacher dealing effortlessly with life, pupils and driving lessons.
