Caveman epic tops box office

LONDON (Reuters) - Warner Bros’ prehistoric epic "10,000 BC" topped the box office over the weekend, knocking last week’s No. 1 "Vantage Point" down into second place, according to Screen International.

Director Roland Emmerich’s story of a young hunter discovering his destiny as he battles mammoths and mayhem took 1.93 million pounds on its debut.

Vantage Point, the story of a presidential assassination plot, with Dennis Quaid and William Hurt, took 0.93 million pounds in its second week for a three million pound total.

Unchanged at three was Disney’s "The Game Plan," with wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as a gridiron footballer coping with the demands of looking after an eight-year-old girl.

Down two places at four were Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson in the tale of Anne and Mary Boleyn’s rivalry for the love of Henry VIII, "The Other Boleyn Girl."

At five, down one, was "The Bank Job," a fictionalised account of a 1971 London robbery.

Making its debut at six was "The Cottage," a comedy/horror movie about two brothers, a kidnap and a cottage hideout.

Up four places at seven was hitman movie "In Bruges" on release in Ireland only, while down three places at eight was "The Accidental Husband," with Uma Thurman and Colin .....continued below

Firth in the tale of a radio talk show host recklessly advising one of her listeners to break up with her boyfriend.

New at nine was "Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert" a 3D performance from the Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana programme.

Unchanged at 10 was Daniel Day-Lewis in "There Will be Blood."
