LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Gael Garcia Bernal and Danny Glover are set to join Fernando Meirelles’ apocalyptic drama "Blindness," which is scheduled to begin shooting next month in Sao Paulo and Toronto.
Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo already have joined the project, which is based on Jose Saramago’s acclaimed novel.
The story is set in motion when an epidemic of blindness sweeps through a contemporary city and pushes society to the brink of breakdown. Bernal will play the King of Ward 3, and Glover will narrate the story. Meirelles’ fellow Brazilian, Alice Braga, has also joined the cast, as the girl with the dark glasses.
The Focus Features International project does not yet have a U.S. distribution deal.
Bernal was recently in theatres with "Babel," while Glover is best known for his work in the "Lethal Weapon" films. Braga appeared in Meirelles’ acclaimed 2002 drama "City of God."
