DUBLIN (Reuters) - Ireland scrumhalf Peter Stringer was passed fit on Thursday to start Saturday’s Six Nations game against England at Croke Park.
Stringer missed the 20-17 defeat by France on February 11 after breaking a bone in his hand in the game against Wales a week earlier but the Irish Rugby Football Union said he had been able to take a full part in training in recent days and would be fit to start his 74th international.
"We are happy that Peter’s hand has healed and he has had no negative reaction to it in training in the last few days," said coach Eddie O’Sullivan, who had named his team on Tuesday but delayed confirming the scrumhalf.
Ulster’s Isaac Boss, who played against France, moves to the bench.
Team: 15-Girvan Dempsey; 14-Shane Horgan, 13-Brian O’Driscoll (captain), 12-Gordon D’Arcy, 11-Denis Hickie; 10-Ronan O’Gara, 9-Peter Stringer; 8-Denis Leamy, 7-David Wallace, 6-Simon Easterby, 5-Paul O’Connell, 4-Donncha O’Callaghan, 3-John Hayes, 2-Rory Best, 1-Marcus Horan
Replacements: 16-Jerry Flannery, 17-Simon Best, 18-Mick O’Driscoll, 19-Neil Best, 20-Isaac Boss, 21-Paddy Wallace, 22-Andrew Trimble.
