Sienna Miller says she's not after fame

NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) - Sienna Miller is an actress, a fashion icon with her clothing label, and a darling of the paparazzi since her split with ex-fiance actor Jude Law -- but she insists fame is the last thing on her mind.

The 25-year-old star, who is appearing in her first title role in "Factory Girl" playing pop artist Andy Warhol’s short-lived muse Edie Sedgwick, spoke to Reuters about being in the spotlight:

Q: What do you think about the film’s director George Hickenlooper’s comments that they took a certain risk hiring you?

A: "At that point I had only had three films out. "Factory Girl" was the fourth film I ever did. Obviously for an independent film to get financing you need someone who has had a film that has come out and who has been commercially successful which I have not. But we managed to get it together. I don’t know why they hired me but I am very grateful that they did."

Q: Do you see any similarities between yourself and Sedgwick, who was noticed for her fashion sense?

A: "That is something that I tried my best not to think about or obsess about. It is just not interesting to me. But I guess from an outside perspective now that I look at it I suppose there are similarities although I just feel very blessed to have had the upbringing that I did as .....continued below

she was really tortured as a soul. It is more what people have told me. Her brother thinks we are alike, in energy level and enthusiasm or maybe a free-spiritedness."

Q. Warhol was fascinated with fame and Sedgwick’s fame did not last long. What do you think about fame?

A. "I don’t want to achieve fame. It has never been about achieving fame. I think that is something that gets put upon me. If I wanted to be famous then I wouldn’t be doing the movies that I am doing. It’s not about fame and celebrity, that is really just one part of the culture of my job that I am uncomfortable with. I really genuinely love my craft. I am an actress that is what I do and if that comes with the territory that is fine."

Q. What would you like attention to be given to?

A: "The fact that I take my work very seriously and work very hard. Everything else that is created and hyperbolised is not my doing, it’s the circumstances, it’s the way my life turned out and I wouldn’t change one bit of my life. But it would be nice if the focus was on something other than my personal life."

Q: With all the attention given to your personal life, do you think you have changed?

A: "Nothing about me or my life has changed. I don’t have an assistant, I don’t have bodyguards, I live a very, very normal life. I kind of refuse to let it change me or to affect me. I don’t read it and I still have the same friends."

Q. You have been labelled for helping establish "boho-chic" fashion. Did you intend to create a fashion style?

A: "No. People kind of label you. I have always collected vintage clothes and always been inspired by the ’60s and ’70s."

Q: What are your fashion plans?

A: "I started a fashion label with my sister it is called Twenty8Twelve, and it is our own label and it is launching Autumn/Winter ’07. It is designer diffusion level and we’ve got jackets, dresses, jeans, t-shirts, tops, all sorts."

Q: What are you doing next?

A: "I bought a house (in London). I am going to move in which I can’t wait. I haven’t had a solid base for a couple of years so I am just looking forward to nesting and being still and taking a bit of time off."
