JIM CARREY's new animated movie HORTON HEARS A WHO! has stomped its way to the top of the box office.

The family film, in which Carrey voices an elephant, debuted atop the chart with takings of GBP2.94 million.

The Spiderwick Chronicles also scored a big opener with profits of GBP2.5 million at number two, while Step Up 2 The Streets and Meet The Spartans also profited from the Easter holiday weekend - both were new entries at three and four respectively.
