SANTA MONICA, CA - Volunteers set up the Arlington West display of war memorial crosses organized by Veterans for Peace (VFP) on Santa Monica Beach on May 26, 2007 in Santa Monica, California. Each white cross represents one U.S. military person killed. Because of space limitations cramped by the ever-increasing number of dead, red crosses represent 10 deaths. 22 faux coffins draped in U.S. flags represent the total killed this week. The current overall total is 3,444. The display will remain up for the duration of the Memorial Day Weekend. (Photo by David McNew/Getty Images)
