More on Winnebago Deal:
There will come a point in the future when your grandchildren will pose the question "What did you do in the rock wars of the 00's?" To which you might reply: a) "Nothing.", b) "I think I bought that album by The Darkness" or c) "Dude, I was totally down with 'Dead Gone', the debut by the Deal! I tell you what, they're don't make them like that anymore'"
And now comes that moment where you hear 'DEAD GONE' by the greatest shit-kicking rock 'n' roll duo this grubby isle has produced in years, a band called Winnebago Deal who over the course of a mini-album, EP and a clutch of memorable live shows have casually shit on their new rock contemporaries from a great height - every man jack of 'em.
"Arguably the most exciting rock outfit to hit the British circuit in the past year." - The Independent
Winnebago Deal are Ben Perrier (vocals and guitar) and Ben Thomas (drums)and they hail from Oxford. Their thrill-packed story so far smacks of idiot genius: frustrated by playing in a conventional set-up they stripped it down to a new hard rock aesthetic simplicity, Ben Thomas learning the drums from scratch for the occasion. They plugged in one guitar into a monolith of Marshall's and they played their drums very loud. But unlike Bill and Ted or Jack and Meg, they could really play.
The people came and the people liked. Whispers of Black Flag / Motorhead / Nirvana-style sonic greatness quickly circulated while the Deal were still mere weeks old. Meanwhile out in the real world there was a rumour that we were allowed to like rock again. Oh how we laughed...
