Triggerbox opened the sixth Tiscali Showcase at the Carling Bar Academy Islington on Friday February 18th 2005 - and you can check out audio and video from the night below.
Originally from the outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark Jacob Q (voc/guitar) & Jacob S (drums/voc/samples) were scholarshipped into the jazz course at London's Royal Academy of Music at the turn of the millennium. They soon found out though - through working on a project for Sony Music - that what they really wanted was to get back to their roots and form a rock n' roll act that would mean something in the real world. Initially cutting their teeth as a 4-piece band, JQ and JS decided to strip down to the 2-piece format in late 2004 as they went on one of their numerous tours of the UK. This - their first as a duo - was easily their most successful tour to date, with absolutely raving responses every night. As their first London shows similarly provoked silly passion from their audiences they realised they'd found something special.
Recently described as 'White Stripes and Hives in one' - although also at times sounding towards Elliott Smith or even early Beck - Triggerbox make rough, catchy tunes with beatlesque harmonies and driving beats - spiced by their homemade samples, played live on an octapad 'triggerbox'.
Triggerbox are currently working on their debut album as a duo, whilst the single 'On/On' from their last EP as a 4-piece (on F-Slip Records) has debuted on London's XFM, PuLSE Radio and Danish Radio's Main Station P3 %u2013 and currently is making its way to the airwaves around the UK and Denmark.
This two-piece is going to go very, very far. Just watch them live and you will know why and how!
Triggerbox is definitely one to watch, as they're a potential gold mine in the current music climate. With an awful lot of commercial potential, they have managed to recreate a musical integrity and tongue in cheek humour that only the Kinks could have come up with. Ray Davis would be proud! - Andrew Shaw, unsignedcentral.co.uk
"Smarter, edgier and more abrasive than your average indie-schmindie, there is a huge commercial potential here. Despite the high level of detail Triggerbox weld infectious spiky riffs, in substantial choruses without even a hint of visible stitching." - Dave Himelfield, Manchestermusic.co.uk (UK)
"From ska, punk, funk, reggae, lo-fi electronics and samples to indie-rock with a hint of grunge, here's everything but the kitchen sink! - Claire Sturgess, XFM (UK)
"Skater-friendly & grungy - dirty beats and sampled sounds make for an interesting combination. Strong songs with a contemporary sound, with excellent guitar work, taking elements from art-rock and blues as well as punk." - Sound On Sound Magazine (UK)
"Their music is a raw cocktail of samples, edgy blues progressions and cheeky vocals all driven by a restless energy. They have managed to create an interesting style of music that seems both cool and relevant." - GAFFA Music Magazine (DK)
