  • More on Newton Faulkner:

'Newton Faulkner oozes soul from every dreadlock...effortless, his sound is both fresh and nostalgic, a real reminder of lazy, hazy summer days' Stranger Magazine, December 2006

21 year old singer/songwriter/guitarist Newton Faulkner - whose intensely charismatic performances and ear-boggling guitar techniques have wowed audiences across the UK - releases his single "I Need Something" on April 30th through Ugly Truth Records.

"I Need Something" is a wistful, passionate and throaty vocal twisted around beautifully soulful and melancholy melodies captivatingly teased out of his acoustic guitar. Newton's two EP's so far, "Full Fat" (released last March) and "UFO" (released in December) both totally sold-out of their limited run of 3,000 copies. 'Full Fat' reached No 1 on the Amazon singles chart without any promotion.

Performances of songs from these EP's earned him the standing ovation of the night at one of Jo Whiley's recent Little Noise gigs (sharing the Union Chapel stage with the likes of Coldplay's Chris Martin, Lily Allen & The Automatic).

Newton was taught guitar by the legendary Eric Roche and his use of the guitar far outstrips the norm, managing to effortlessly blend finger picking, multiple harmonics, pulls and taps to make the instrument not only a stringed one, but also a tool of percussion. Combine this with his relaxed vocals, which swing from sweet falsetto to throaty emotion, with a healthy dose of something in between rap and scat and you have something truly unique. Newton's songs contain snapshots of lyrical humour, tenderness and rawness in equal measure.

Newton is now selling out gigs across the UK, after he landed prestigious support slots with Jack Johnson's cult buddy Donavon Frankenreiter and a word-of-myspace cult spread across the Cornwall surf scene and beyond.
