Based around the music and art colleges of Canterbury, Motion Picture Soundtrack are Alastair and Graeme Blackwood, Nick Watts and Will Hasler.
Their beautiful melodies and histrionic sound has earned them growing attention since their inception in 2002 and now their unfettered enthusiasm and dedication, is showing its rewards.
The end of 2004 saw them recording a track with renowned producer Hugh Jones (Echo and The Bunnymen, I am Kloot, Longpigs, Hope of the States) at Miloco studios in London, which they put onto their first demo with songs recorded and produced by themselves.
Following this demo interest grew rapidly and their two-month residency at Canterbury's Alberry's bar, saw a flow of record companies making the trip to Canterbury. The band were offered a deal with one of the majors but decided to finish their degrees and work on newer material and are currently planning their first release for the end of the year.
The band are now in the studio working on their debut release.
MORE ON THE MUSIC
Whilst inspired by the creativity and diversity of Craig Armstrong, the soaring anthems of the Verve, the fragility of Thomas Newman, and the dark qualities of bands like Anathema and Sigur Ros, Motion Picture Soundtrack are committed to their own sense of individuality.
They continually build on strong, mature song-writing with each band member adding his own stamp and are constantly looking at innovative ways of enhancing interesting music and live performances: the end result is cohesive, intelligent and moving.
Seeing the band play live is an all-encompassing experience as their fervour and drive shine through the songs.
The set, often including projected short films during the performance, is at times sensitive, and at times raw.
It takes the listener on a journey through beautiful melodies and passionate lyrics to emerge positive and uplifted.
