Bell X1 are firmly established as one of the biggest bands in their native Ireland. 'Flock' is their second album and shot straight to No. 1 in its first week of release there in October 2005. At the end of January 2006 the band played to 6,000 fans at a sell-out show at Dublin's RDS before performing live during the prestigious Meteor Awards where they were nominated for Best Album and Best Irish Band.
The four members of Bell X1 - vocalist Paul Noonan, guitarists Dave Geraghty and Brian Crosby, and bassist Dominic Phillips - have been friends for close on 14 years now. The first album they released in the UK was 'Music In Mouth' in 2003, which featured a string of classic singles such as 'Tongue' and 'Eve', built their live reputation and won them much critical acclaim.
'Flock' sees principle songwriter Paul Noonan further at ease with his craft, distilling his increasingly politicised outlook, voracious appetite for literature and deadpan sense of humour into a series of lyrical gems. By turns the songs are bolstered by the rhythmic invention of Talking Heads, the sonic experimentation of Radiohead and the kind of playfulness that characterised early Supergrass records.
It is an exceptional record and Bell X1 have made good on the promise that was so evident on 'Music in Mouth'.
'Flock' was released in the UK earlier this year.
