Single release date: 12th April 2004
2004 looks set to be a big year for Tim Wright, who's set to drop his debut album for novamute, 'Thirst', from which this single is taken.
That is not to say that 2003 was particularly quiet for the York-based musician, which is probably not a surprise when you consider how many aliases Tim records as.
Last year saw him release an album under his Tube Jerk guise for Scotland's Sativae recordings.
In addition to this, Tim produced a host of remixes (including Radioactive Man), and continued his involvement with the New Flesh Hip-Hop project on Ninjatune. Oh, and then there's his work with his band, Sand.
Tim's working relationship with novamute began in 2001, with the Searcher' single, a jacking hybrid of techno and dark UK Garage that featured Tim's trademark heavy bass. A further 12'' in 2002 - 'Going Down' continued this trend and paved the way for this latest material.
THE RIDE - RADIO EDIT
Whoa... that bassline's a bad boy, though that's pretty much par for the course with this guy.
'The Ride' is a perfect first single from the album.
It's catchy as hell - like Basement Jaxx being molested by The Bug, and it's a good example of Wright's brutally effective genre mashing.
Did somebody say crossover potential? Ragga vocals are provided by Toastie Tailor, member of the New Flesh crew, with whom Tim releases on Ninja Tune.
