The Darkness - Permission To Land (artwork pictured above)

Fresh from a trailblazing headline tour and blowing a sold out Astoria to pieces, Four Man Rock Machine, The Darkness - Justin Hawkins - vocals/guitar/synth; Dan Hawkins - guitar; Frankie Poullain - bass; Ed Graham - drums - unleash their long awaited, very much anticipated debut.

Says frontman Justin of the album; "Permission To Land is less of a request to moor the good ship Darkness, rather a demand to shift the rest of the sh*te cluttering up Rock's runway. For many moons, we have been bracing ourselves for a shift in the public's perception of The Darkness from underdogs to world-beaters. Our debut album will undoubtably be a catalyst for this transition. About f**king time, too!"
Includes the singles 'Get Your Hands Off My Woman' and 'Growing On Me'.

'...absolute f**king genius. No, scrub that. Beyond genius and out the other side' - Dave Everley, Kerrang!

'The most overblown, vainglorious, vital band to ever have placed foot upon monitor...true stars' - Matt Everitt, The Fly

'...every track on Permission To Land is a killer....Grant The Darkness permission to land in your life: they are the first truly great party band of the 21st century' - ***** Bang

'Glory will be theirs' - Independent On Sunday

'They are The Darkness, and they are here to rock your world' – The Guardian

'What have we got that other bands haven't got? Balls. No scrotum. Just balls' - The Darkness

  • Flip & FIll - Floor Fillas

Morecambe and Wise, Peters and Lee, the Chuckle Brothers - the history of popular culture has been blessed with double acts whose own contribution to the zeitgeist has been beyond compare.

However, the world of dance music has been largely bereft of such death-defying duos. Fear not though as all this has been changed with the arrival of Messrs Flip and Fill.

'Floor Fillas' is their debut album but they're already known to legions of clubbers and pop music students as the brains behind works from Kelly Llorenna as well as being bona fide hitmakers in their own right.

The mood here is never taxing as the F brothers bounce joyfully from one club anthem to the next dragging a grinning, dancing crocodile of eager ravers in their wake.

A double disc set, disc one takes in all the hits whilst the second CD features a jamboree of Flip and Fill mixes.

  • Kings Of Leon - Youth and Young Manhood

'Youth And Young Manhood' is the stunning debut album from Nashville's Kings Of Leon. Consisting of three brothers and one cousin - Caleb Followill (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Nathan Followill (drums), Jared Followill (bass), Matthew Followill (lead guitar) - the Kings travelled around the Deep South with their minister father playing as the pick up band in whatever church their father had landed in.

These routes and an eclectic mix of influences infuse a debut album the NME is already calling'the sound of 2003'.

Includes the singles 'Molly's Chambers' and 'Red Morning Light'.

"We discovered the freedom to look at religion in a light that we wanted to look at it in. That's when we really kind of cocooned, really started to experience so many aspects of life that, before, we'd never even known were out there. I mean, Zeppelin and the Stones and Tom Petty and all that, we got to listen to a little bit growing up, but we never really got to go buya record and sit there and listen to the whole thing ten times in a row. Now we can write and play and record, giving people who hear us, we hope, a glimpse into the mind or imagination of real guys who have been through real stuff and are trying to put our experiences into words that go well with the kind of music that we like to play. Once we heard bands like White Stripes, it just gave me chillbumps, because we thought: Maybe we can do this, and maybe we can do it kind of cool" - Nathan Followill

'They are to 2003 what Oasis were to 1994 and the Strokes were to 2001 - the most exciting new rock band of the year. All hail to the kings' - 9/10 NME

    '...definitely irresistible' - **** Bang

  • Magic Band - Back To The Front

After being dormant for over 20 years, Captain Beefheart's legendary group, the Magic Band has reunited and is set to release their first album in two decades.

The Magic Band, sans celebrated leader Captain Beefheart, (Don Van Vliet) who retired from music altogether over twenty years ago, boasts the formative lineup including Drumbo (John French) on drums, Rockette Morton (Mark Boston) on bass, Feelers Reebo (Denny Walley) and Gary Lucas (aka Mantis) on guitars.

The band re-entered the recording studioin February 2003 and essentially recorded a blistering rehearsal with the band playing numbers live-to-tape.

Playing classic tracks from 'Safe As Milk', 'Trout Mask Replica', 'Lick My Decals Off Baby' and 'Clearspot' this is something all Beefheart fans must hear.

For those unexposed to their genius this is a rare chance to experience this wildly influential group first hand.

  • Ocean Colour Scene - North Atlantic Drift

It's difficult to believe that Ocean Colour Scene have been around for almost 15 years - from humble beginnings in 1988 they have grown into one of the UK's most respected and consistently successful 'proper' bands.

Guitar, bass, drums, voice - the key ingredients that make up their classic sound - backed up with unfailingly high quality songwriting.

Hailed as their finest album to date, Ocean Colour Scene's blinding new album, 'North Atlantic Drift', is another brilliant piece of work. Kicking off with the fantastic single 'I Just Need Myself', the album runs the full OCS gamut, from all out rockers ('Oh Collector', 'Golden Gate Bridge'), to the Lynne-inflected balladry of 'Been Writing', a paean to tragic English rose Sandy Denny.

  • Plump Djs - Eargasm

Ah, the enigma that is breakbeats.

Not only does the very title of the genre mean different things to different people, it's the also the sort of catch-all phrase box into which all kinds of duff stuff gets dumped.

For clarification of what breakbeats really means, please open any works from the Plump DJs and listen intently.

And, for the definitive tome on the matter, grab 'Eargasms', wherein Andy Gardner and Lee Rous let loose their own mighty breaks monsters. Expect seismic basslines thesize of tectonic plates and the kind of loaded groove shuffles that only really get played on Mount Olympus. Godlike.

  • Spocks Beard - Feel Euphoria

Change can be a good thing, and it is for the highly regarded rock band Spock's Beard. The new studio album 'Feel Euphoria', is the first to feature drummer Nick D'Virgilio as lead vocalist.

D'Virgilio, guitarist/cellist Alan Morse, keyboardist Ryo Okumoto and bass guitarist Dave Meros decided to soldier on after the departure of vocalist/keyboardist/guitarist Neal Morse in 2002.

"I think people will be pleasantly surprised by this album", says D'Virgilio.

Pressure combined with the excitement of the unknown weighed on Spock's Beard, but once work began on 'Feel Euphoria' the band members felt more and more at ease and their confidence swelled when they realized they had written and recorded a strong album.

"After the initial shock of Neal leaving, I got over being mad rather quickly and we looked at it as an opportunity.

We're used to making records, but this one definitely had a different vibe.

We all brought in demos and then worked on this music together", D'Virgilio says.

"I wanted to make sure we sounded cohesive because Neal had a certain style to his songwriting".

The diversity of 'Feel Euphoria' is demonstrated with heavy rock, shimmering melodic pop and experimental, progressive-oriented elements.

The songs include: 'Onomatopoeia', 'The Bottom Line', 'Feel Euphoria', 'Shining Star', 'East Of Eden', 'West of Memphis', 'Ghosts Of Autumn', 'A Guy Named Sid: Part 1 - Intro, Part II - Same Old Story, Part III - You Don't Know, Part IV - Judge, Part V - Sid's Boys Choir, Part VI - Change' and 'Carry On'.
