Isle Of Wight named Best Major Festival

Isle Of Wight named Best Major Festival

The UK's first ever major festival, revived in 2002 after a 32 year hiatus, lived up to its legendary status this summer with a stunning show that included headline performances from Muse and The Rolling Stones.

It was a night of double celebration for the event's organisers, Solo, as head man John Giddings picked up the award for Outstanding Contribution to UK festivals.

Thouands of your votes helped the Isle Of Wight Festival win the Best Major Festival award, knocking two times winner T In The Park off its perch.

Just moments after celebrating his festival's first victory in the UK Festival Awards, Giddings was back on stage to collect the award for Outstanding Contribution, which was presented by by his friend and former client Andrea Corr.

Punk legend Iggy Pop also gave his endorsement via a recorded message from Los Angeles, saying: "John you are my friend and my agent. God bless you and God bless the Isle Of Wight Festival."

Glastonbury Festival's Michael Eavis was in the audience and graciously offered to present Isle Of Wight Festival their award after finding he had narrowly missed out, however that honour fell to Virtual Festivals editor Ross Purdie.

Like all the awards given out to festivals at last night's ceremony, results were weighted on capacity to ensure a fair vote.
