Following their debut digital smash Still Got Time (as propped by the likes of Judge Jules, Eddie Temple-Morris and James Hyman), Tiscali Showcase favourites DR are back with another slice of melodic funk-tinged uber-cool electro that is certain to burn up dance floors and prickle the backs of many a neck.
Full of sparkling keyboards and dirty breaks, Circus delivers a hook-laden, jumpy undercurrent overlaid with powerful vocals hinting at a tale of dark obsession:
"You got me turning circles in my mind I'm feeling like a shadow in your life Dancing to your circus after dark You can take my body but you're never gonna get my heart"
Always ones to set trends, DR have partnered with pioneering film director Chris Newberry who has supplied an award winning short film to feature as the accompanying video to the single (check it out at: www.drmusic.co.uk).
Shot on location at the Minnesota State Fair, the Circus video is based on a childhood nightmare that transcends time—losing your parent in a crowd. In the film, an eight-year-old girl wanders lost amid oblivious adults and bizarre attractions. When she serendipitously meets a younger boy who is also lost, the children instantly form a bond and together hatch a clever plan to find their parents.
With their previous projects getting plays from the likes of Pete Tong, Fatboy Slim, DJ Sneak and Groove Armada, DR are veterans of dirty dance beats that get the crowds foaming at the mouth for more. With their 80's-style synth line and dirty bass, DR have been said to sound like the outcome of a dirty one night stand between the Scissor Sisters and Mylo.
DR's Circus single will be available from all major digital retailers worldwide from June 5th 2006. The track has already been selected as one of The Orchard's hot digital tips for June.
DR make a rare live appearance in London for their single launch party at Metro, Oxford Street, London, also on Monday June 5th.
