Multi-instumentalist and songwriter Nick Talbot holds an entirely unique position in the current music climate. On his first two releases on Warp, debut 'Flashlight Seasons' and mini-album 'Black Holes in the Sand', haunting melody and virtuoso folk-influenced guitar playing were ofset by ominous murder-ballad lyrics and foreboding electronics.
With 'The Velvet Cell' and the forthcoming album, 'Fires In Distant Buildings', the progression seen over his previous studio albums is continued more emphatically than ever, now suggesting inluences as diverse as My Bloody Valentine, Slint, Richard Thompson and the Velvet Underground in its sprawling experimental rock.
