"Bollocks to poverty" ActionAid at Reading 2005

Tousands of festivalgoers will deliver a Third World wakeup call to Tony Blair at this year's Carling Weekend in Reading.

ActionAid is inviting Reading revellers to shout: "bollocks to poverty!" as it once again combines campaigning and clubbing in its ever-popular ActionAid Space tent.

Last year thousands of festivalgoers, not-to-mention the likes of Franz Ferdinand and Razorlight, got behind ActionAid's campaign.

But in the wake of the G8 summit in Scotland and with crucial World Trade Organisation (WTO) talks on the horizon, this year's bid to call time on unfair trade looks set to cause an even bigger stir.

Tiscali is getting behind the campaign and will be showing the Action Aid advert during the live webcast of the Reading festival. ActionAid youth campaigner Brendan O'Donnell said: "The G8 meeting in Scotland made some small steps in fighting poverty, but did nothing to combat unfair trade. Currently unfair trade rules rob poor countries of $45billion a year. With these crucial talks on the horizon ActionAid is calling on Tony, George and the other world leaders to say: "Bollocks to Poverty!" by delivering Trade Justice

ActionAid tent the line-up at Reading will include it's very own chill-out area with comfy sofas, table tennis, table football and giant Jenga.

Life-size punked-up world leaders will feature on posters, postcards and a short film to hammer home the need for trade justice, while supporters can have their very own spikes and spray paint punk makeover.

The World Trade Organisation (WTO) meets in Hong Kong in December 2005. In the past its trade rules have been rigged in favour of rich countries and multinational companies.
