Maroon 5 Discography
The four founder members of Maroon 5 - Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick - were high school friends in Brentwood, an affluent Los Angeles suburb, and formed the band 'Kara's Flowers', originally as a grunge outfit. As Madden said later, the boys were '...very much under the sway of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and their ilk'. However, they soon evolved into more of a melodic rock combo, clearly with a smattering of soul influence, such that by the release of their breakthrough album 'Songs About Jane,' by which time they had become a five-piece with the addition of guitarist James Valentine, their lineage back to Cobain, Vedder et al was far less obvious. Eventually seized upon by the American mainstream market, the band rose to great fame on the strength of single successes such as 'Harder to Breathe' and 'This Love', which performed strongly on both sides of the Atlantic in 2003, and made the group a globally recognisable brand.
