Bing Crosby Discography

The mellow-voiced record-breaking troubadour Harry Lillis 'Bing' Crosby came from humble beginnings to be viewed as the personification of all-American wholesomeness, as well as being unparalleled – he was certainly the most popular and successful star of radio, cinema and music for much of the twentieth century.

His career spanned six decades, from its beginning in 1926 until his death of a heart attack in 1977. He was the biggest radio star of all time, the most popular movie star of the 1940s, and his American Everyman image contributed not only to his own immeasurable success but also to morale during the Depression and the Second World War, symbolising the 'American Way'.

The biggest hit of his career, and in fact the most popular recording ever, the perennial favourite 'White Christmas', became the only single to make the US pop charts 20 times, every single year (except one) from 1942 to 1962. However, in stark contrast to the easygoing image Crosby's persona and voice suggested, there was controversy after his death when his children were denied access to his huge fortune, and one of his sons alleged that he had been a psychologically and physically abusive father – nearly unravelling entirely the 'family man' image that Crosby had so enjoyed and thrived upon throughout his career.
