All about this artist
Biography:
Formed in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, in 1994, extreme metal band Sevendust originally comprised Lajon Witherspoon (vocals), Morgan Rose (drums), Vince Hornsby (bass) and Clint Lowery (guitar) and John Connolly (guitar). All were previously members of sundry local rock outfits, with Witherspoon recruited from a local bar blues/funk rock outfit, Said Rose.
The quintet first became Crawlspace then Sevendust, recruiting former Twisted Sister member Jay Jay French as manager and signing to TVT Records (formerly home to Nine Inch Nails). A self-titled debut album followed in 1997.
Buoyed by strong radio play and an intensive touring schedule throughout America, it hit the number 1 spot in the US metal charts and stayed there for 12 weeks. A small tour of England, sponsored by Kerrang! magazine, ensued. The 1999 follow-up album Home was another highly impressive burst of intense metal, featuring a duet between Witherspoon and Skunk Anansie's Skin on "Licking Cream".
Both Animosity (2001) and Seasons (2003) sacrificed some of the band's melodic touch in pursuit of intensity, but both albums confirmed that Sevendust remain a long way clear of most of their contemporaries. Former Snot/Amen guitarist Sonny Mayo joined the line-up in 2005 as a replacement for Lowery.
The band also switched labels to the Universal-distributed indie imprint Winedark, making their debut for the label at the end of the year with their fifth album, Next.
