All about this artist

Biography:

Born 9 September 1975, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. Although smooth jazz vocalist Bublé heard the sounds of contemporary pop as a child, he also heard much earlier singers on record, among them, Rosemary Clooney, Bobby Darin, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, and Stevie Wonder.

Taken by his grandfather to a concert by the surviving Mills Brothers, he was swayed not only by the performance but also by the repertoire. Encouraged by his grandfather, he learned some of the older songs, practiced his singing, and entered and won a local talent contest, only to be disqualified because he was too young.

Grandfather again stepped in, persuading local musicians to allow a free spot on stage for the precocious singer in exchange for cut-rate or even free plumbing work. During the early 90s, Bublé won first prize at the Canadian Youth Talent Search. He was also selling independently produced CDs, and gaining on-the-road experience with an American road company's version of the critically-acclaimed musical play, Red Rock Diner, celebrating 50 years of rock 'n' roll, and as a member of a musical revue, Swing.

He performed at the wedding of the daughter of former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, where he was heard by David Foster, a recording company executive. Produced by Foster, who also arranged and played piano on the session, Bublé's expertly marketed major label debut sold very well indeed, and the singer's career soared throughout Canada and North America.

He also benefited from the revival of the easy listening crooner in the UK, following home-grown talent Jamie Cullum in notching up platinum sales. In early summer 2003, Bublé made his New York debut at the Blue Note club. By this time, he had also been heard on a number of film soundtracks, including Duets (2000), Two Weeks Notice (2002), and Down With Love (2003).

Bublé has also appeared on television, as a lounge singer in Days Of Our Lives. He made his commercial breakthrough in the US with the studio albums It's Time (2005) and Call Me Irresponsible (2007), with the latter reaching the top of the mainstream charts.

His pleasing vocal sound and easy swing has been likened to that of Harry Connick Jnr.
