Biography:

This UK quartet arrived on the music scene in early 2004 as potential rivals to the then current kings of the teen pop rock crown, Busted, and the links between the two bands make interesting reading. McFly was formed in 2001 by Tom Fletcher (born Thomas Michael Fletcher, 17 July 1985, Harrow, London, England; guitar/vocals), Danny Jones (b.

Daniel Alan David Jones, 12 March 1986, Bolton, Greater Manchester, England; guitar/vocals), Harry Judd (b. Harold Mark Christopher Judd, 23 December 1985, Chelmsford, Essex, England; drums), and Dougie Poynter (b. 30 November 1987, Corringham, Essex, England; bass).

Lead vocalist and chief songwriter Tom Fletcher originally tried out for Busted, but when he was beaten to the position by Charlie Simpson the band's management held further auditions to form a new outfit centred around him. Poynter, Jones and Judd completed the line-up, with the quartet taking their band name from the lead character in the Back To The Future movies.

In 2003, McFly collaborated with Busted on the b-side of their "Crashed The Wedding" and toured with them on their sell-out UK tour. McFly's debut single, the highly catchy "5 Colours In Her Hair", was released in March 2004 and provided the quartet with the perfect start to their career, topping the UK singles chart in the week of its release.

Their debut album Room On The Third Floor followed in June, spawning another UK chart-topper, "Obviously". The quartet went to the top of the UK charts for a third time in March 2005, courtesy of the Comic Relief charity single "All About You"/"You've Got A Friend", and returned to the summit later in the year with their new single "I'll Be OK".

The attendant Wonderland was also very successful. Further UK chart-toppers followed in 2006 and 2007 with the charity double a-side "Please, Please"/"Don't Stop Me Now", "Star Girl", and a cover version of Jellyfish's "Baby's Coming Back".
