Biography:
Dayton, Ohio, USA-based emo-pop band formed by JT Woodruff (vocals/guitar), Casey Calvert (born USA, d. 24 November 2007, Washington, DC, USA; guitar), Micah Carli (guitar), Matt Ridenour (bass) and Eron Bucciarelli (drums). The original line-up of the band began to take shape in the late 90s, during which period they went by the name of A Day In The Life and released the Nine Reasons To Say Goodbye album.
After adopting their unusual three-guitar line-up with the recruitment of Calvert, the quintet changed their name to Hawthorne Heights (a Nathaniel Hawthorne reference) in 2001. Two years and countless live shows later they signed a recording contract with Victory Records, who no doubt noted the similarity of the Hawthorne Heights sound to the label's recently departed emo hopes, Thursday.
The single "Ohio Is For Lovers" was heavily promoted on the Internet during 2004, resulting in a Top 40 placing on the US Modern Rock charts and a growing media buzz around the band. The attendant album, The Silence In Black And White, was a workmanlike collection of emo-pop tunes that nevertheless proved to be a solid commercial success.
Hawthorne Heights' second album If Only You Were Lonely was another major success, reaching number 3 in the mainstream album chart at the start of 2006. The album was promoted by a label-led intensive street marketing campaign that was to prove instrumental in the band's departure from Victory later in the year, with suits and counter-suits flying freely between the artist and label.
The band continued touring and recording while the legal issues rumbled on, but these issues were put in perspective in November 2007 when guitarist Casey Calvert was found dead.
