Biography:

Born Felicia Lynn Dobson, 28 February 1985, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Raised in the Scarborough district of Toronto, alt pop singer-songwriter Dobson studied Performing Arts at the city's Wexford Collegiate Institute before her burgeoning music career took off.

She had been avidly recording her versions of famous pop songs since her early teens, but was also writing her own rock-orientated material. She was offered a contract with Jive Records but turned the label down when they refused to let her record her own material.

A less restrictive offer from Island Records led to a new contract and an album was completed with help from producer Jay Levine. Released at the end of 2003, the singer's self-titled debut album received strong reviews and was a major hit in her native Canada.

The spiky rock sound and the acidic lyrics of tracks such as "Unforgiven" and "Bye Bye Boyfriend" earned Dobson the inevitable comparisons to fellow Canadian teen rocker Avril Lavigne. The album also enjoyed some success across the border in America and led to a touring support slot with Justin Timberlake.

Dobson completed a second studio album for Island, but despite gaining good pre-reviews Sunday Love was unexpectedly dropped by the label shortly before it was due to be released. The singer parted company with Island shortly afterwards.
