Biography:
Born 5 June 1979, Almería, Andalucía, Spain. From childhood, Bisbal was intent on a career in music but went to work in the agricultural industry that is intensive in the part of Spain where he grew up. In his teens he joined the Orquesta Expresiones and this led to his being offered a chance to participate in the Spanish television show Operation Triumph.
This programme is similar to the UK's Pop Idol and the USA's Protagonistas De La Musica. In the show 16 hopeful young singers were pitted against one another and at the end of the series, Bisbal was second overall, to Rosa, and he swiftly proved that his was a solid talent.
After a successful national tour with Rosa, Bisbal's debut, Corazón Latino, and its hit single, "Ave Maria", were also successful and won him a 2003 Latin Grammy as Best New Artist. He followed this with an 80-concert tour of South and Central America and also visited the USA.
Bisbal's follow-up album reached number 1 in Spain's 2004 pop charts.
