All about this artist
Biography:
This Glasgow-based band made its debut in 1973 when Timmy Donald (born Angus Donald, 29 September 1946, Bristol, Avon, England; drums, ex-Trash) joined two former members of the Poets, Hugh Nicholson (b. 30 July 1949, Rutherglen, Strathclyde, Scotland; guitar/keyboards/vocals) and Ian MacMillan (b.
16 October 1947, Paisley, Strathclyde, Scotland; bass/harmonica/vocals). The three musicians had previously played together in the short-lived Cody. Blue's debut album showcased an engaging, melodic rock and continued the style forged by Nicholson during his brief spell in the Marmalade.
Life In The Navy introduced a new addition to the line-up, Robert "Smiggy" Smith (b. 30 March 1946, Kiel, Germany; guitar), but this second set lacked the charm of its predecessor. The unit was briefly disbanded, but re-emerged in 1977 with a Top 20 single, "Gonna Capture Your Heart".
Charlie Smith (drums) and David Nicholson (guitar) had replaced Donald and Smith, but despite completing two further albums, Blue was unable to repeat this success. The various members have continued to collaborate on the occasional studio album under the Blue monker, while forging low key solo careers as songwriters and producers.
Litigation proceeded on behalf of the members of Blue in 2003 against the recent boy band of the same name.
