All about this artist
Biography:
Born October 1981, Lima, Peru. This UK singer-songwriter was raised in Bristol, England, after her missionary parents returned to their country of birth when she was two years old. She began performing as a teenager, working with her own funk and soul band and playing gigs around Bristol.
In her late teens and early twenties Rowley studied music and art, latterly at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music where she was mentored by soul singer Carleen Anderson. She also worked part-time as a backing vocalist during her studies and forged a musical partnership with jazz saxophonist Ben Castle.
Following her graduation Rowley began releasing independent EPs, starting with a self-titled 2004 effort that showcased her soulful vocals. She also continued to provide session vocals, guesting on albums by Crowded House and Duke Special before signing a contract with the Blue Thumb Records label.
Released in May 2008, Little Dreamer moved effortlessly between soul, blues, jazz and folk, with Rowley's smooth vocals the unifying force. The album included a sublime cover version of Led Zeppelin's "Nobody's Fault But Mine?.
