  • British rockers the Arctic Monkeys were named the Best Act In The World at the Q Awards on Monday 08 October 2007. The ceremony, which took place at London's Grosvenor Hotel, also honoured Sir Paul McCartney and Kylie Minogue, who were lauded as Q Icon and Q Idol respectively. Troubled singer Amy Winehouse triumphed in the Best Album category for her critically-acclaimed sophomore effort Back To Black - but was not at the ceremony to collect her award.   • The Uk's music event of the year was held in the plush, stage-dressed surroundings of London's Earl's Court and was hosted by Kelly, Jack, Pop and bossy-grump Mom Osbourne. Brit Awards 2008 hopefuls were headed by Leona Lewis, Take That, and Mika with 4 nominations each, followed by The Arctic Monkeys, Mark Ronson and Kate Nash with 3 respectively. But On the night it was Take That, Arctic Monkeys and The Foo Fighters that took the lions share with two gongs each.     Alex Turner from Sheffield’s Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane from Wirral-based band The Rascals, both aged 22, have collaborated to form The Last Shadow Puppets. ‘The Age Of The Understatement’ was produced by James Ford, who also worked on the Arctic Monkeys last album. This album, released by Domino, reached number one on its release in April 2008.
