I run a removal firm and it was abundantly clear we were heading for this mess back in 2003 when we stopped moving first time buyers! what happened next we became as a nation landlords! with the buy to let culture. This shower should never have got in to start with they have no idea how to run a country and never will it is the basic rule in a so called free market state that the market will find its own level as soon as you put false floors like minimum wage tax credits etc in it,it is no longer is a free market its not rocket science and they've done it again will they ever learn? only a fool makes the same mistake twice but this lot oh my word lets get some common sense government get out of europe get rid of the red tape strangling our small business' and make people earn their benefits!

I see all these comments & I wonder if folk (including Gordons Mob!) know whats going on in their own country?? We hav a system in place that encourages scroungers & layabouts! Why can people claim money when they havent contributed?? If you dont put cash in the bank you cant draw it out??? What part of that DONT you understand??? So what do the so called peoples party do the penalise savers & home owners they encourage unmarried mothers to continue to reproduce children with multi- fathers they force OAPs to sell the home they scrimped & saved for to pay for their Nursing home care, they means test people who have worked ALL their life many serving in the forces to give todays generation a better life.. They pay immigrants MORE then out own needy & openly encoursge a society that has seen massive increases in Crime, Drug Abuse, Violence & a general errosion of our Culture, Civil pride & identity as a nation They should be ashamed they should call an election & all future politicans should only be paid on RESULTS if they dont perform out they go.. In the real world you get tthe sack so I say Gordon Brown & the Rest GET REAL! Yes Im a pensioner Im 70 I served in the REs the RN & the RAF a total of 23 years I have never had any hand outs Ive never been unemployed why because I took what was available & kept my pride even if it paid less than benifits .. I also like to say to people with children Dont have any more unless YOU can afford to pay for their upbringing as Im FED up paying for them!! THank you Mr Brown for the Thieves, Beggars, Illegals CHarter you really are popular with the UKs idle, unlawful & general misfits Im sure if they all vote you might get in again next time I pray to the Lord you dont .
PS If I sound bitter its because I am I have seen our beloved land raped, devalued, demeaned, while our MPs sit in their Ivory Towers counting their earnings.

It's nice to see that everyone states we should have a better Old Age Pension to live on, I agree, I also agree it should be equal to the benifits of the unemployed.
At presant the O.A.Pension is taken off people like a LEGAL Government MUGGER to pay the Council rates, You have little comming in But you must pay. The council states that its not what you have comming in, ITS YOUR ABILLITY TO PAY, This means if you have less than the £16,000 Government minimum before claiming benifits [for the unemployed],The pensioner must pay even down to below a £1,000. CAN YOU CLAIM anything as a pensioner, YES, But only when you can nolonger pay your rates and still they will try and take your old age pension even if you are starveing, cold and unable to maintain your house. Its time pensioners got the rates reduced by 50% at 65, reduced by 75% at 70 and nothing after 73 [live longer? little chance],I also believe that the council should help maintain pensioners house's at a reduced rate of 75% as most over 70 cannot.
IF you believe pensioners should vacate their homes to make way for younger employed people and sell for less, THEN say SO BUT implement the above first,GIVE and STOP the TAKE,TAKE, TAKE culture imposed on the elderly.

I fill many MP,s on all sides have mist the point to their roll and interest to their constituency they have only had interest in looking after number one by claiming expenses and having a second home in London plus their salary has been much to high. Many have relied on a expencive teams to running their constituency. Bring back to Elect a local person "that" lives locally to their constituency not a MP "THAT" lives miles away from "their" constituency and have not a clue to what is going on at the same time milking the system.I write a letter to my M.P to concern, and I never had a reply![He has the second highes expenses]
Torys seems to have the right idea cut MP seats down by half use local coverment not LONDON.
It will take many years before the people will trust any party. Mr BROWN you must call an election now not in a years time to which you would have topped your pension up even more?

Dave says:
The cycle is always the same. Labour governments rack up huge debts and wreck the economy, the conservative ones come along and introduce effective measures to curb spending and reduce debt. The only reason the current shower has been in power so long is because they inherited such a strong economy from the Tories. The sick who have made some provision for themselves are still being penalised by an income threshold of £85 a week, which has never been increased to take account of inflation since it's introduction in 2001 and effectively reduces any increases in occupational pension to below the RPI on which they are based. Don't see our glorious leaders capping their expense accounts in this way do we?

graham eccleshall says:
lets face it the budget misses the mark by miles. To stimulate the economy of this country we nead money in the pockets of the spenders (the public) helping the banks who caused this is totaly wrong. If money spent on the banks was distributed progresively with the public by tax relief or a lump sum that didnt affect the household allowances in any way this would stimulated the economy and the banks would have got there return through there perviose high interest rates. With this the country and the people could spend to generate a cash flow (required for any business to sustain a progressive profit) so we the public and the country can recover at the same time without massive goverment loans "simples".
