Most hated taxes

Tax pic

Which tax should Alistair get rid of?

- Tax tips and tools
- Areas you can get tax benefits in

Which tax do you hate the most? Council tax would be high on many people's list. And for those that believe in totally free markets, it's usually income tax. Inheritance tax is loathed by many as a double tax - one where you have to pay again on assets you acquired during a hard working life, using already taxed cash.

So, if Alistair Darling were to announce the abolition of a particular tax, which would you be most pleased to waive goodbye too? Vote in our poll on the right and see what others think.

The tax that you pay most is the old VAT even drinking a cup of coffee in a shop you pay VAT it is included in all your goods. Everything we buy! Or fuel tax should we be paying that on all the goods we buy Transport is included in everything we buy from raw materials to the finished product. Then to take it home!

I'm on a state pension two smaller ones, amounting to under £8000 in total and was paying income tax at 10%. I presume now, since you abolished the 10% band, I shall pay tax at 20%. You doubled my tax bill Mr Brown, thanks a million. I presume you will be much better off. Can't see any logic in this.

The survival of the planet is more important than any one of us.There should be massive increases in tax on car owners, people who fly off on exotic holidays, people who use unecessary items such as dish washers etc.

Mr. Colley says:
It's amazing really. In what way does the government feel that allowances of this type benefit people? What do they expect folk to do with their 25p allowance? Save up for a couple of weeks to buy a bread loaf? Perhaps before giving out things like this they ought to consider what the real value is? Ok so they can turn around and say "this year we gave £X to pensioners" but when that equates to £1 per month more whats the benefit? Ridiculous... It'd be better spent on funding extra policing... Something that would be of ACTUAL use to people... What would your average MP do with their 25p I wonder? Hmmm...

The changes i would like to see are either the ceasing of the over 80 allowance of 25 pence a week or an increase to at least £2 a week it is an insult to most of who fought to keep this country safe . i have just turned 80 and have sent gordon my check for 25 pence to give to his underpaid MPs
