Tiscali: How we Recycle Mobile Phones

Recycle your Mobile Phones for Cash

Tiscali Recycles

Tiscali Recycles enables you to earn money from recycling your old mobile phones. Why and how? Read on to find out.

Since the industrial revolution technology has advanced at breakneck speed. So too have human populations. Both have an impact on our natural environment.

Thoughts

  • Technology is making advances in reducing consumer impacts on the environment; technology alone will not protect our environment
  • Even if money is no object, can we afford to continue purchasing products and services without considering their environmental impacts?

We realise that change is necessary in order to conserve and preserve our worlds natural resources. The technology that once caused so much environmental damage is now developing to help reverse the damage.

For example, Nokia (TM) have recently created a prototype mobile phone made out of recycled components. This is an excellent technological development.

However, regardless of these developments, it is human choice that makes the difference. We must choose to abide by the key principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle. These principles can, and should, be considered for most products we purchase.

Quick Facts

  • Most mobile phones have an average life span of between 12 and 18 months before being replaced
  • Old phones, many in perfect working order, are now redundant
  • This is where we can make our first choice; hold on to our phones as long as possible
  • This reduces the number of new phones purchased each year
  • This helps conserve the resources used to create new phones
  • Reuse and recycling mobile phones is available and is an environmentally responsible choice for those of us with old handsets

Tiscali Recycles will pay you up to £150 to recycle your old mobile phones.

Tiscali's partner Envirofone, ensures that mobiles are sorted, graded, and where required refurbished. If the phones meet the right criteria they will be packaged and sold to buyers around the world where they will be sold and used again.

This approach helps conserve natural resources, prevents mobiles going to landfill and causing poisonous leachate and helps make affordable information technology such as mobile phones available to aid the development of local developing economies.

If for any reason the phones recovered are not suitable for reuse, these will be end of life recycled. This involves the segregation of reusable components, separation of recyclable plastics and metals, and finally the shredding of these materials for reuse as a new material in a new product such as the new Nokia (TM) phone.
