Gok Wan: How to look good Naked

Gok Wan: How to look good Naked

Fashion guru Gok Wan is here to boost our confidence, increase our self esteem and make us look great in clothes and out! Tiscali was lucky enough to interview Gok; enjoy the interview below and feel great about yourself and your body.

What are your top 5 tips on boosting your self esteem if you are unhappy with your body?

1) Be honest with yourself. Get yourself down to your bra and knickers and have a good look at yourself and give yourself a reality check. Get to know the real you and appreciate the contours.

2) Start people watching. Begin noticing what you think looks nice and pay attention to how a woman's body moves. Realise that not everyone looks great no matter what their size. Someone tall and slim may walk with stooped shoulders, or someone with more feminine curves than you may not look as elegant. Realise that your body isn't as bad as you think.

3) Look at yourself and get to know yourself. You may not look the same as you did 10 years before however you should learn to accept that change is beautiful. Age beautifully and keep the confidence.

4) Take a camera shopping with you and when you are trying on different clothes take a picture of yourself. Before rushing into a purchase go and have a coffee, look at the picture and have a think about whether you feel good about the way you look. Don't take it home and beat yourself up because it doesn't fit properly. Trust yourself when clothes shopping.

5) Talk to friends about what suits you and when out shopping, talk to the sales assistants. Get some style advice from the experts in the store and explain your shape... i.e. I am top heavy, what will suite me best? Ensure you dress for your shape and stick to your budget.

What would your quick fixes to looking good naked be?

Groom your skin. Use an exfoliater to get rid of dead skin cells and boost circulation, encouraging new skin growth at the same time. Use a good moisturiser, paying special attention to the elbows, knees and feet. Take your time moisturising and get to know your body again. Shave your legs, underarms and trim your bikini line. Eat properly to maintain healthy skin from the inside. Foods such as oily fish and vegetables will feed your nails, hair and teeth with essential oils and vitamins as well as your skin. Whilst you are naked, your hair is your wardrobe, so keep it looking good with regular trims and conditioning treatments.

How would you identify the best part of your body?

Have a good long mirror moment and be honest with yourself. If you have a double D chest that is nice and perky - admit it and be proud! If your bum is nicely rounded and very firm - show it off in a nice pair of jeans. Again, have a reality check. Look at other women and identify what looks good about them. Don't hide your best asset - show it off!

How would you disguise cellulite and stretch marks?

Using a fake tan will give a cleaner contour. By moisturising and scrubbing with circular motions towards the heart you'll boost circulation. Learn to love your body and understand why you have stretch marks. Have you lost lots of weight? If so, then be proud! Learn to love the natural parts of your body. Think of natural or plastic flower as a comparison. Plastic flowers can look OK at best, but natural flowers will always look beautiful.

Many people are conscious of physical scars, what advice would you give?

Some scars can be sexy. Sever scars such as burns - look at derma make-up. Look at yourself and understand where that scar came from. Communicate about your scar - and give yourself confidence.

What are your thoughts about cosmetic surgery?

I'm all about confidence so if a nose job will make you feel better then go for it. However, I am against plastic surgery as the first option. Ideally, it's all about options with no commitment so look at making the best of yourself in other ways and emphasising the best parts about you.

If on a limited budget where would you invest your money?

Invest your money in the basics such as jersey and rib tops. I recommend Joseph and Zara for good basics. Also, invest in a good pair of shoes and some stylish sunglasses.
