What our tester thought:

Having had a course of microdermabrasion before I wasn't too worried about the procedure, but I was a little apprehensive at the prospect of a sugar acid peel! My fears were unfounded though as over the course of half an hour my skin was buffed and polished until it glowed.

I was led into a gleaming white room with an air that resembled a clinic more than a beauty salon (which made me feel that bit more confident in the treatment). Next, my face was cleansed thoroughly to prepare it for the glycolic skin peel that was to follow. The beauty therapist then smoothed on the peel with a brush (after protecting my eyes with damp cotton wool pads) and we waited a moment for the peel to take effect. It literally took just 30 seconds or more before my skin started to tingle. It wasn't painful in the slightest, just like the sort of tingly sensation you sometimes get with a really astringent toner.

Next the therapist sprayed neutralizer on my face and started to remove the skin peel with damp cotton wool. My skin felt totally refreshed and clean and ready for the next stage - the microdermabrasion.

As I mentioned I've had a course of microdermabrasion before, but I'd never really thought it had much effect on fine lines around my eyes and it didn't give me that peachy glow I'd been looking for, even after six treatments. As soon as the therapist started the procedure I realised I'd gone to the right place this time. The equipment was much more powerful, the crystals much more abrasive and the treatment itself much more thorough. The therapist explained that most high-street salons use older equipment and many beauty therapists are cautious about applying too much pressure to the skin for fear of causing pain to the clients.

I couldn't believe the difference. My skin looked better after ten minutes than it did after six full half-hour treatments. Sure, I was a little bit pink around the edges and it took a while for the redness to die down, but it was worth the lovely smooth glowing skin I saw the next morning in the mirror.

Post treatment, I was given a full skin analysis and recommendation for products that would help my skin, prevent anti-ageing and protect from sun damage. I walked out feeling as good as new, complete with a bumper goody bag of products! Full marks to the Sk:n clinic for a professional, friendly and knowledgeable practice.
