Follow our workshop and embark on your first steps to communicating with spirits.

Chakras and meditation

This is the third excursion into the exploration of your own potential - your ability to tap into and so find a contact with your own higher self.

Before we embark on this meditation technique, the practice of which prepares us mentally and physically for living a more full life of benefit to ourselves and the others with whom we share our lovely planet, we will 'open our major chakras'... Now 'chakra' is a sanskrit word meaning 'wheel', and it's generally accepted that there are seven most active of these energy wheels within your aura. An aura is just the name given to the physical energy field that emanates from your body. As everything in the universe is connected, so the energy field surrounding and interpenetrating it, is echoed by everything within it.

So our human aura is connected to our spiritual self, making the balanced spinning of our main literally and figuratively, they are: the base, or root, at the base of your spine; the sacral, around the pit of your stomach; the solar plexus, above your navel near the waist-line; the heart chakra, which is in the middle of your chest, a little to the left; the throat, in the centre of your neck, near the vocal chords; the brow chakra, sometimes called 'the third eye', above your eyebrows between your eyes; and the Crown chakra, your connection to the rest of the universe of spirit and matter, is on the top of your head.

Having made your quiet space where you won't be disturbed for the time, around fifteen minutes, that you are undertaking your development, sit on a plain dining-room chair with your feet on the ground and the base of your spine tucked into the back of the seat so that you are sitting up straight. (If you are unable, just make sure that you are comfortable and that there will be no pressure from crossed limbs etc.). After closing your eyes, take three good deep breaths, and then imagine the following sequence.

In your mind's eye picture a seed, and plant it at your base chakra, at the bottom of your spine. Imagine it sprouting a little blue flower on a green stem. Let the stem grow upward through each of your chakras in turn, every time imagining a little blue flower opening, and a green stem stretching on to the next one - until you come to your crown chakra, when the flower will be white, and there will not be a stem growing on from that.

When you have visualised all those linked flowers, it will be time for a short meditation. Imagine a large ball of light in front of you in the middle of the room. This is your vehicle that is to take you on today's outing to a special fun-fair.

Visualise walking forward into the ball of light, and as you step in, you'll be aware of a warmth and calmness surrounding you.

Relax inside it,and very quickly you will realise that you have reached your destinaton.

Step outside of the ball of light, which will wait for you while you visit the fun-fair that you can see in a nearby field. Take the pathway that leads to the field, and remember to use the same pathway on your way back.

There are lots of stalls and rides - a carousel and a helter skelter, a switch-back railway on anything you like. After you've had some fun, look for a stripey tent - because in that tent is someone waiting to meet you. Go into the tent, see who's there, share a little time together, try and remember what is said to you.

Thank them and go back outside the tent, find the pathway that leads you to the ball of light. Once back outside, you'll feel rested and calm. Be aware that you are returning to your home base, and when you know you're there, because you will be conscious of stopping, step outside the ball of light, walk back to your original seat. When you feel the weight of your body once more, wiggle your fingers and your toes (or any other bits) open your eyes and take a sip of water.

Now you must 'close down' those energy centres, and regain the normal state of living - albeit with some extra knowledge now that will stand you in good stead.

Imagine the white flower on the top of your head gently closing, then withdrawing into the green stem, and the stem shrinking back to the blue flower on your brow chakra, and that flower closing and disappearing into the green stem below it. Then that stem moving back towards the next blue flower, and so on until you get to the seed at your base chakra. In your mind's eye take the seed and put it in a little box made of crystal, and hand it to your helper in spirit to look after for you. Even if you can't actually envisage anyone, it will be taken, and the next time you want to use that method, they will give it back to you.

I hope that you enjoyed this week's workshop as much as I did in preparing it. If you perserve with the meditations and exercises that are given, you will enjoy a better quality of life, that is not dependent on material riches.
