I'm sure I saw a ghost

I was a Heavy Goods Driver and for a long period I had a constant run from a Place called Spital Yorkshire were I had stayed in digs overnight. I would leave the digs at 3am and travel to Scotch Corner. I'd then turn south were I would travel on to the Great North Road as it was known then, and now called the A1.

At a certain point of that road on numerous occasions I would see in my driving mirror a single headlight which I presumed came from a motor cycle. The light would appear and vanish as though the rider was attempting to pass my Lorry. This never occured although there was no turning off the road for the rider to go, it eventually disappeared.

It happened so often that I would look out for it whenever I travelled at that time. I happened to travel along that road in the opposite direction going north one night and called into a garage for fuel. During conversation with the attendant I remarked that I usually went South and that I had often seen what I considered a motor cyclist in that area that never overtook me.

I asked was there a place were he could have turned off. I was told that what I had seen was a motor cyclist that had been killed many years before whilst trying to pass a lorry. It had finally collided with a lorry coming from the opposite way. At the time of the accident the great north road had only been a single carriage way instead of a dual carriage way as it is at the present time. Did I see a Ghost?
