For the sake of privacy to the owners I will not divulge the exact location other than to say it was in a public house/hotel. I was on a 4 week course and was staying at the pub accommodation with other course members. One of my colleagues mentioned to the landlady that she had been visted the night before by a shadowy figure which had awoken her by tapping on the bedside lamp shade. The landlady informed us that the pub had a known ghost of a little 8 year old girl who had died in the 1800's and who was well known to the staff.
It was said that the ghost was not evil but merely mischievous as any little child would be. Over the next couple of weeks a couple of other course personnel mentioned strange events occurring, such as knocking on room doors, as if someone was playing knock ginger, or lights being turned on and off and the sound of someone running up and down the corridor. I never personally experienced anything myself until the third week.
About 8pm one evening I left my room to meet up with the rest of the course candidates in the restaurant for our evening meal as normal. As I stepped out of my room into the corridor, the corridor lights immediately went out and I felt as if I had just walked into a large freezer. I should point out that it wasn't only the corridor lights that were extinguished but also the back up fire/safety lights. I was quite unnerved but could see the lights from the adjoining corridor were still illuminated and walked to the staicase. When I got down stairs I mentioned this to my colleagues two of whom told me that their rooms had been colder than usual that evening.
I also mentioned it to the landlady who assurred me that the lights could not be extinguished from the corridor as the light switch was located in the cleaners office/storeroom which at the time was locked. But such occurrences had happened in the past.
Later that evening we retired to our respective rooms. I remained awake studying and watching TV until about 1.30 am. Shortly before retiring to bed I had a cup of tea and had eaten a packet of bicuits. I had left the wrapper from the biscuits on top the writing desk before climbing into bed. I noticed that my room was decidedly colder than it had been and checked the radiator which was turned up full but the room still felt very cold. I got back into bed and turned the light out and almost immediately became aware of the sound of a rattling noise.
I switched the bedside lamp on and looked in the direction of the writing desk from where the noise appeared to have come from. The only thing I could see which would have made the noise was the screwed up discarded biscuit wrapper. Trying to find a logical reason for the noise I assumed that a draft from the window had probably blown the wrapper across the desk and therefore dismissed it, turned the light out and tried to get to sleep.
Again almost immediately after I switched the light out I again heard the sound of the biscuit wrapper rolling along the desk. I again turned the light on and looked at the desk where I noticed the wrapper was now on the opposite side of the desk nearer to the window. Not wanting to believe the ghostly stories I again dismissed the event as nothing more than a draught causing the wrapper to move. I should point out that all the time the light was on the wrapper never moved.
I turned the light off again and once again almost immediately I heard the sound of the wrapper rolling across the desk. I switched the light on and saw that the wrapper had again moved to the opposite side of the desk. I immediately got out of bed, picked up the wrapper and threw it into the bin. The room at this time was freezing. I got back into bed and switched the light out trying to blank out any thoughts of ghostly images. I then felt as if something had passed close to me in bed and sat up with a start and switched the light on. I then saw that a pair of trousers that I had draped across the bottom of my bed were now lying neatly laid out alongside me.
Out of a mixture of fear and frustration I swore at which point I heard the sound of the corridor fire door suddenly bang open and shut as if someone had run through it in a hurry. I was unnerved by the experience and got out of bed to have a cigarette at which time I noticed the time was 1.50am.
By the time I finished my cigarette I also noticed that the room temperature had returned to normal, indeed I had to turn the radiator down as it had become too warm. The next morning I went down to breakfast and found two of my colleagues discussing events that they had experienced that night. One of them had awoken to something tapping on the lampshades and the other had been subjected to someone knocking several times on his room door. Every time he had answered the door there had been no-one there.
I then related my experience to them and during discusion it was revealed that all our experiences had occurred within 10 minute period between 0145 - 0155. It is worth noting that all our rooms were adjacent to each other. Shortly after, one of our other colleagues joined us, who appeared rather shaken. He then related that about 2 am that morning he had awoken to the feeling of his room being very, very cold and with a weight pressing down on him. This had alarmed him, (Even though he is a martial arts expert) because even with the light on he could not see what was apparently pressing on him. Later that morning whilst speaking to the landlady she confirmed that she too had felt the presence of her uninvited guest that previous evening.
