Readers' Stories New Age Tiscali

The german voice

In the late 60s I was a young Army chef and I was posted at 50Missile Regt, Menden in West Germany. One summer's day I had worked an early shift and I had the afternoon free. I took a shower and decided to take a nap. I was just about to fall asleep when I became aware of intense pressure (like a pair of very strong hands) pushing me down and also sideways into the adjacent wall.

I tried to move and found that I was completely paralysed unable to move a single muscle or even take a breath. I was absolutely terrified and being a Catholic I began to mentally pray quite fervently, all to no avail. At this time inside my head I heard a deep male voice repeating 3 times the following sentence "Der erste mal ist ruhig". This translates to "The first time is quiet". After what seemed to be an age the pressure appeared to diminish and I tried to move only to experience the sensation more intensely than before.

I eventually managed to get off the bed but walking to the door was like trying to walk through a swamp or invisible cords. I managed to stagger to the room next door where a colleague was in the room. When I staggered in to his room, totally incapable of coherent speech he observed that I was ashen grey in colour and that my hair was literally standing on end.

I vowed never to sleep in that room again and spent the next 3 months sleeping in a sleeping bag in various barrack rooms throughout the camp. When I eventually summoned enough courage to go back I changed all the furniture around and with the bed in a different place I was confident to go asleep. Again I was about to fall asleep when I realised that I was having a repeat experience. I initially tried to fight against it until I decided that resistance was futile and decided not to resist. Whatever it was immediately stopped and a sense of calm came over me. I was personally never troubled again though lots of other soldiers had similar and even more frightening experiences even though an exorcism was performed.
