Last august i was visiting the Peak District, and around 8pm me and my partner came across an old farmhouse, which seemed deserted so we decided to have a look around,on entering what i can only describe as an old barn with one wall and half of a thatched roof missing, i heard a scuffling sound i looked in the direction of the noise and saw a headless chicken run across the barn, what i want to know is, was this a ghost,or a poultryguist?

Whilst working in the Tolbooth in the City of Stirling some years ago (which has a gruesome past anyway, being that is was a prison, check internet)I was asked by a collegue to open the gates of the nearby Old Town Jail as workers cars were parked inside the grounds. Outside the Tolbooth itself there was the towns tourist ghost walk which was ending for the evening. As I was opening the first large gate a tall young man dressed in a long black heavy type army styled coat walked over the road to me very slowly, on noticing this I thought to myself, heh! another tourist wanting to know some info about Stirling just a secong and I'll fully open this gate, on looking up the prison driveway I could see my collegues car appproaching me, I turned to talk to the stranger who would have been standing next to me by this time and he disapeared, although I did not notice him vanish as I was attending to the gate. I let the driver and car exit from the Old Town Jail and looked up and down the narrow street, know one was to be seen except all the tourists from the walk and two girls sitting on the small wall across the road (Tolbooth) have a natter and a smoke. I closed the large gates and walked across the road and said to the girls, did you see the tall man walking over to me and where did he go? the girls replied by saying that they were watching me opening and closing the gates and that no one crossed the road they only saw myself.. I can only deduce that it was a friend or a relation that had died and his only aim was to visit the person who was locked up within the jail, on seeing me at the gates, he could not pass or would not go further than the entrance itself and disapeared. This tall young man with the heavy coat, dark trousers and was unshaven, had long dark air and I can only describe him as looking like Jesus Christ... anyway was it a ghost...I'll never know

many years ago when i was living on my own.I was lying in bed one morning, and was awoke by someone shouting my name very loudly"Alisha"i jumped up in bed,but there was no one there.however the morale of the story was. That there had been a powercut on the street during the night, and my alarm hadnt gone off, if the voice hadnt shouted me awake,i would have slept on,and missed the job interview i was going for.i got the job,and that is where i met my husband,we now have a wonderful son.so if the voice hadnt woken up,god only knows what my life would be now. so thankyou whoever you are !!!!!!!!

About 15 years ago, my wife and I used to do cleaning, and whilst working in a house owned by a couple who were both school teachers, the house was empty apart from the two of us,I was hoovering the bathroom, when I turned and standing behind me was a female about 35-40 yrs old, dressed in 40`s style clothes, I was so shocked to see her I just smiled and she turned ,walked away and disappeared, I never told the owners, and never saw the "lady" again

We live in a victorian terraced house in a town centre. We moved into the property when i was almost 9 months pregnant. We had been here one week and myself and my partner went up to bed at around 9pm that evening and we was fast asleep when we heard a very loud cough (like an old lady's) coming from the bottom of our stairs. Our house is very small and it was very loud we both sat up bolt right and just froze. We sat there for a few seconds then i said "did you hear that" and my partner said "yes" i demanded he get up and check the downstairs. He did so and there was nothing there he came back up and we was a little spooked but soon went back to sleep. Then once our son was born i had only been home 2 nights from the hospital and we was all up in bed and our son was in hes mosses bascket in our room. We had a kettle etc on our bedside cabinet so we could warm hes feeds through the night. We was all sound asleep then i heard the kettle click on and begin to boil i remember thinking "The baby isnt crying for hes feed why is my partner boiling the kettle" i sat up to find once again my partner sat upright staring over at the kettle which was on my bedside looking very scared. I said did you do that he said "no of course not it woke me up i thought it was you" the kettle had boiled and clicked off at this point. It could not have possibly switched on by itself you have to flick the switch? Our son then woke for a feed within seconds. Very spooky. Then one morning when our son was around 3 months and had gone into hes cot in hes own room i went in to him when he woke and he was upside down in hes cot. At this age he wasnt able to move around much and had never done that before he also slept in a baby sleeping bag making it more difficult. He was full of smiles so i didnt panic to much but did feel spooked yet again. Nothing since has gone on that was a year ago now. I have always believed in this kind of thing but when it actually happens to you personally its scarey.

When I was around 7 months pregnant, I went out one summer night to pick up my partner from a local pub. It was a warm but breezy night. As backed out into the country lane where we lived, I saw a figure in my headlights. It was a woman wearing a long dress, walking in front of me in the middle of the lane. Thinking it was a neighbour out for an evening stroll,I cautiously tooted my horn, but the figure just kept on moving. I edged the car slowly forward, thinking that she would get out of the way, but as she didn't move from the middle of the lane, I put on the handbrake and stepped out. The breeze was blowing in my face, so I was amazed to see that the material of her dress was blowing AWAY from me, down the lane. I called out. Suddenly the figure began to move, or almost float, faster towards the hedge on the side of the road. I watched as she just disappeared. I went to the point where I'd last seen her, but there was nobody there. The following day I was speaking to an elderly lady who had lived in the village for many years and told her what I had seen. She told me the story of a midwife who used to live here who was killed when the village hall was the victim of a bomb. The lady was killed in the blast. There had been quite a few sightings of her. My neighbour said it was told that if she appeared to a woman expecting a child, the child woould be happy and fortunate throughout life. It turned out to be very true. My daughter is now a very successful and happy 21 year old and I count myself very lucky having had that strange but lovely experience.

Forgot to mentioned the freakiest event at my aunties old pub - when her little boy was a baby he was being babysat when my aunty was out. She told the sitter to check on him an hour after he went down as he would have kicked his blankets off - when the sitter went in the child was wrapped in my aunties dressing gown!

Where do you start with our current house. There is a long list of things that have happened since we moved in, back in May 2001. I have seen a towel (on a hook) levitate in front of me, my wife and myself have had water flicked over us, with no water or other person around. I woke in the early hours to see a little girl standing next to me and laughing at me (i was wearing a sleep mask at the time)she disapeared before i could blink twice, i have heard a piano playing during the night (twice) and we don't have one and neither does our next door neighbour. There have been footsteps with no reason for them, my son has seen the dark figure of a man in his bedroom, apparently holding a cup of tea in one of his hands. We heard the crash of our CD's piled up in our bedroom hitting the floor, but when we turned the light on (we were in bed) the CD's were still sitting there in a tidy pile. Electrical appliances suddenly bang (particulary the TV) as though someone has struck them. Me, my wife and teenage daughter have all been stalked by something during the night and as a result i have resorted to wearing ear plugs for a good nights sleep. The funniest thing is that our house was built in the late 1970's and our research shows the land it is built on used to be an orchard before hand.

Claire Gough says:
My aunty moved into a very old building which was originally an inn. Her little girl was 4 years old when they began extensive renovations of the top floor. The little girl complained of a grumpy man her room and a little boy who kept playing with her toys - my aunty questioned her about it but it soon stopped. Six years later, my aunty had a boy and when he was 4 years old he came downstairs saying he was going to shoot that grumpy man in his bedroom (the same room as the girls), my aunt suddenly remembered the same thing happening when Erin and was 4. It didn't end there, Sam made a new friend who he called 'Ginge' who liked to play in his room with his toys. One day, every single key in the house, even the large iron ones, were bent double. Footsteps were heard constantly at night, my aunt would sit up as she was expecting to see someone coming in through her bedroom door, the steps would come right up to the side of the bed but nobody was there. She has seen shoes and other household things floating. She eventuully got a medium in who knew nothing of the problems, she said there was an old man, a small boy and cat in the house.
