Can I get breast reduction on the NHS?
I've been partly breastfeeding my baby and had my first period six weeks post birth.
It's now nine weeks since then, but I haven't had another period.
One and half weeks ago, I felt odd period pain (mild). I was convinced I was pregnant, but when I did a test it was negative.
I stopped breastfeeding a week ago. Before that I was only doing one small midnight feed for two weeks.
What's going on? What happens to periods after breastfeeding and while weaning?
Answer
Breastfeeding stimulates the sex hormones, which in turn stimulate the milk production, so breastfeeding can make your periods irregular or even absent.
Once you stop breastfeeding, it can take from a couple of weeks up to several months for your periods to re-establish themselves - especially if they were irregular before you conceived.
Yours sincerely
