Stuttering, or stammering, is surprisingly common in childhood with as many as 1 in 20 children affected.
Many will grow out of it but if your grandson's stammering is happening fairly regularly then it would be advisable for him to be referred to a speech therapist for advice and help.
Your grandson's GP should be able to arrange this for him. You might also like to get further information from the British Stammering Association.
