I'm male and have swollen, puffy nipples

Other Qs & As

I have gynaecomastia

My life is being ruined by my large breasts

My son and I have strangely shaped nipples

My son appears to be developing breasts?

Question

When I was in my teens my nipples became swollen.

I went to my doctor who said that my nipples should return to normal within a couple of years. Well they have never returned to normal. Out of embarrassment I never returned and chose to live with it.

However, I recently visited my doctor who said nothing could be done. I want to know if there is any surgical procedure I can go through and who will be able to do it.

Answer

I wonder if you have had any blood tests carried out. There may be an underlying hormonal problem which is the cause of this. If you haven't had this investigated then go and see your GP and say you want blood tests to see if a cause for the swelling can be found.

If you have already had it investigated and nothing has turned up then I suspect the only possible 'solution' would be a surgical one. You could then ask your GP for a referral to a plastic surgeon for an opinion.

Yours sincerely

Dr Bob Leckridge, GP
