Will a vasectomy make me impotent?
Question
I had a vasectomy four weeks ago, and since then there is a small amount of blood in my semen when I ejaculate.
This blood is dark brown. I am not in any pain with it, just a bit worried.
Answer
Well, it's obvious that something has been bleeding inside you recently â probably from the point where the surgeon cut your vas deferens (the tube that carries sperm).
The odds are that this will do you no harm at all, and the signs of bleeding will soon stop. However, you should just contact the surgeon who did the op and ask him/her to check you out.
And like anyone else who has had a vasectomy, you must assume that you are still fertile until the surgeon or clinic has done tests to show that there are no sperms in your sex fluid. This is particularly important in view of the fact that clearly all has not gone quite right with the operation.
Yours sincerely
