Question
My girlfriend and I love each other to pieces. She's a virgin and she doesn't know what to expect from sex. I'm not virgin, but my first experience was horrible and I can't really help her.
I'm reassuring her all I can, but she's worried about pain, and she fears the unknown.
Could you please recommend a site to visit or a place to go for information? Any help would be so gratefully received.
Answer
David writes:
The obvious place to go is The Brook Advisory Service for Young People. Start by ringing their helpline: 08000 185023 and they will be able to tell you where your nearest Brook is.
And when the pair of you finally 'do it', please use contraception.
Good luck.
Christine adds:
In addition to going to Brook, can I suggest you get hold of some good sex education books?
Another very helpful sex education aid is a video called 'The lovers' guide', written and fronted by Dr Andrew Stanway. This is about 14 years old now, but it is still available in some Internet bookshops. It is very helpful for nervous newcomers to the joys of sex.
I hope you both enjoy growing closer both sexually and emotionally.
Best wishes.
Yours sincerely
Dr David Delvin, GP and Christine Webber, sex and relationships expert
