Capsaicin (0.075%)




How does it work?

Capsaicin is a compound which is present in the capsicum vegetable. The precise mechanism of action of capsaicin is not fully understood, however it is believed that it relieves pain by reducing and preventing the reaccumulation of a chemical called Substance P. Substance P is believed to be the main chemical responsible for sending pain signals from the body to the brain. This strength of capsaicin when applied to the skin is used to relieve the pain associated with shingles (herpes zoster) and a type of nerve pain suffered by people with diabetes (diabetic peripheral polyneuropathy).

What is it used for?

  • Pain associated with touch in people with diabetes affecting the nerves
  • Stabbing nerve pain following an attack of shingles
  • Warning!

  • Wash your hands after applying this medicine to avoid inadvertently transfering it to other areas.
  • Avoid contact of this medicine with the eyes.
  • People should avoid taking a hot bath or shower before applying this preparation.
  • If the condition worsens, seek medical advice.
  • Not to be used in

  • Broken skin or open wounds
  • Children
  • Irritated skin
  • This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy. If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
