How does it work?

This medicine contains the active ingredient lornoxicam, which is a type of medicine called a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Lornoxicam works by blocking the action of a substance in the body called cyclo-oxygenase. Cyclo-oxygenase is an enzyme that is involved in the production of various chemicals in the body, some of which are known as prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are produced in response to injury or certain diseases and cause pain, swelling and inflammation. As lornoxicam stops the production of prostaglandins, it is effective at relieving pain and inflammation. All the medicines in this group (NSAIDs) reduce inflammation caused by the body's own immune system and are effective pain killers.

Inflammatory disease of the joints

Pain following surgery

Pain in the lower back and hip which travels down the back of the thigh into the leg (sciatica)

Warning!

Kidney function should be monitored in the following groups of people while taking this medicine: those over 65 years of age, obese people, those with impaired kidney function, high blood pressure or heart failure, those with stressed kidney function as a result of significant blood loss or severe dehydration and those who are to undergo major surgery.

People taking this medicine for longer than three months should have regular blood tests to monitor their blood count, kidney and liver functions.

People with liver diseases should have their liver function monitored regularly while taking this medicine.

Elderly people over 65 years of age should have their kidney and liver function monitored regularly while taking this medicine.

People who are obese or who have high blood pressure should have their blood pressure monitored regularly while taking this medicine.

This medicine should be taken before meals.

Blood clotting disorders

Heart failure

High blood pressure

History of ulceration or bleeding in the stomach or intestines

Liver disease

Mild to moderately decreased kidney function

Obesity

People over 65 years of age

Not to be used in

Active peptic ulcer

Allergy to aspirin or other medicines in this class

Breastfeeding

Children or adolescents under 18 years of age

History of recurrent peptic ulcers

People in whom aspirin or other medicines in this class (NSAIDs), cause attacks of asthma, itchy rash (urticaria) or nasal inflammation (rhinitis)

Pregnancy

Severely decreased kidney function

This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy. If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Certain medicines should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. However, other medicines may be safely used in pregnancy or breastfeeding providing the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the unborn baby. Always inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, before using any medicine.

The safety of this medicine during pregnancy has not been established, therefore it should not be used by pregnant women. Consult your doctor.

Side effects

Hair loss (alopecia)

Sleepiness (somnolence)

Weight changes

Increased bleeding time

Skin reactions such as itching, irritation, redness and rash

Ulceration or bleeding of the stomach or intestines
