How can this medicine affect other medicines?
Beta-blockers, eg propranolol, atenolol or metoprolol, can mask the signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia), which include increased heart rate, tremor and nausea. People with diabetes who are taking beta-blockers should carefully monitor their blood sugar levels.
The following medicines may reduce the blood sugar lowering effect of nateglinide:
- diuretics, eg bendrofluazide, frusemide
- corticosteroids, eg prednisolone
- bronchodilators (beta 2 agonists), eg salbutamol, terbutaline, salmeterol.
ACE inhibitors, such as enalapril or captopril, may enhance the blood sugar lowering effect of nateglinide.
The following medicines may prolong the effect of nateglinide, which may increase the risk of hypoglycaemia:
- fluconazole
- fluoxetine
- ritonavir
- fluvoxamine.
