How does it work?

Budesonide (rectal) is available as an enema. Budesonide belongs to a group of medicines known as corticosteroids. These act inside the cells to decrease the release of certain chemicals that are important in the immune system. By decreasing their release in a particular area (lungs, nose or rectum), inflammation and mucus production is reduced. Budesonide rectal treatment is used in ulcerative colitis involving the rectum and sigmoid colon. It acts locally to suppress the symptoms and inflammation associated with the disease.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
