How can this medicine affect other medicines?

There is insufficient experience with rofecoxib to say with certainty which medicines it interacts with, but the following are interactions that may potentially happen. Tell your doctor if you are taking any medicines, including those bought over-the-counter and herbal medicines, before you start treatment with rofecoxib. Similarly, check with your doctor or pharmacist before you take any new medicines while you are taking rofecoxib. Rofecoxib may increase the blood-thinning effect of anticoagulant medicines such as warfarin. People taking anticoagulant medicines with rofecoxib should have their blood-clotting time (INR) monitored, particularly when starting rofecoxib treatment and if your dose is changed. Rofecoxib may potentially decrease the effectiveness of the following medicines for lowering high blood pressure: - beta-blockers - diuretics - ACE inhibitors. There may be an increased risk of side effects on the kidney if rofecoxib is taken with any of the following medicines: - ACE inhibitors - ciclosporin - tacrolimus. Kidney function should be monitored if any of these medicines are taken with rofecoxib. Rofecoxib should not be taken with high doses of aspirin (over 75mg daily) or with other NSAIDs, eg ibuprofen, as this may increase the risk of side effects. Rofecoxib may increase the blood levels of the following medicines: - lithium - methotrexate. The blood level of rofecoxib may be decreased by rifampicin.
