Aciclovir cold sore cream

How does it work?

Aciclovir is an antiviral medicine which is used to treat certain viral infections. It acts by preventing the production of viral genetic material (DNA), which is required for the reproduction and survival of the virus. Aciclovir itself does not kill the virus, but prevents it from reproducing so that smaller numbers of the virus are present. This means that the body's immune system can more easily overcome the virus. Aciclovir is most commonly used to treat infections caused by the herpes simplex virus. This preparation is designed for the treatment of herpes simplex infections of the lips (cold sores) and is not recommended for use in genital herpes.
